Mystic Moon

February 28, 2008

We are currently in the new Marina La Cruz in Bandaras Bay, some 8nm from Puerto Vallarta.  We are planning to leave Sunday in the late evening hours to go on to Bahia de Chamela and spend a few days working our way south to Barra de Navidad, where we hope to meet up with the Dobbes on Voyager and the Salazars on Wandering Star.  From there, we plan to buddy boat down to Zihuantanejo and spend several weeks hanging out.  Zihuantanejo will be our furthest point south this season, so we will then begin working our way back north into the Sea of Cortez.  We plan to leave the boat in La Paz for the summer and return home for several months, returning to Mystic Moon in early September.  Fall of 2008 will find us exploring and diving the Sea of Cortez, then voyaging south to spend the Holidays in Puerto Vallarta.  After the Holidays, we intend to continue our southward trek into Central America and perhaps even the Galapagos.

We are running around here like wild people, madly getting ready to start our trek south from San Francisco.  It has been a wild and crazy and wonderful summer!

Our plan is to leave here sometime next week (Tuesday is the goal, but more likely, Wednesday) and make the strenuous passage :) down to Half Moon Bay to recover from the craziness here and try and recoup the cruising lifestyle!  We will be in the good company of the Maizels on Anna-Ruth, having met up with them when they arrived here in late July.

We will continue on from there, in what we hope will be a leisurely fashion, to Ventura to meet up with Val and Stan on Pax Nautica to do some quality time with them in the Channel Islands kayaking, diving, hiking, and enjoying life (& learning to stern anchor!).  We also may get to see Mark & his crew, doing the delivery for Kasekuchen, so hope that comes together too.

After that, it is on to Dana Point to have flopper stoppers added and see Zak and Michelle at Dreamcatcher Yachts, and of course, Josh, who is back in LA doing the Universal piece of his NBC/Universal job.  Then, on to San Diego to meet up with the Fubar Ralley and go into Mexico.  We plan to leave Mystic Moon in La Paz for the Holidays and then return after the New Year to continue on south from there.

I just can't wait........!!  :))))

April 17th, 2007

We are preparing to return to Mystic Moon on April 19th and take her up to Roche Harbor for the Selene Rendezvous beginning April 26th.  We anticipate that all the work we commissioned at Sterling will be completed and hope to be able to provision her and get her ready to come down the coast before we leave Seattle for Roche on the 22nd.

The plan is to enjoy the rendezvous and comraderie of the other Selene owners over the last weekend in April, then head to Port Angeles on the 30th.  Mark and Roseanne will be joining us in Port Angeles on the 1st of May, after having returned Koinonia to her home in Puget Sound.  The four of us hope to leave later that morning on Mystic Moon , making our first stop in Astoria, some 30-odd hours later.  All of this is, of course, weather dependent , so our mantra is flexibility and the occassional "ooohhhmmm" to allay the KSP Factor.

We need to be back here in the Bay Area no later than the 12th of May, so if we run into weather, we may have to keep Mystic Moon in port somewhere up north and fly home until we can continue the voyage south.  Our hope is to avoid that, but don't want to be so locked into anything that we can't keep to safe weather windows.

Once we're here, safely under the Golden Gate, we will spend the summer (hopefully getting in some occassional cruises and finishing up [haha] all those last minute tasks for full-time cruising) until Dave is situated in school in late August.  At that time, we'll start to make our way south towards San Diego, and ultimately Mexico after the hurricane season is over there in early November.

November 8th, 2006

After much consideration and several reality checks, we have come to the realization that we will have little time to cruise next summer.  What with getting Dave ready to to go off to school, not to mention wanting to spend that time with him, our summer will be pretty well shot.  As much as we'd like to get back to Alaska next year, it is just not in the cards.  And because we really want to head South in the fall, it seems to make sense to bring Mystic Moon down here to San Francisco so that we can get her ready for full time cruising without having to "commute".

So......the new plan is to finish our outfitting with Brad and Sterling this winter, and then bring Mystic Moon down the coast to SF this spring.  We'll have her here to get all those final nit-picky details done, and then, after Dave is settled into school next fall, we'll start our trek towards Mexico and points South.

As things develop and progress, we'll keep you posted.  We are actually pretty excited, as this just brings us that much closer to our goals and dreams.  Alaska was amazing, and I really feel that we will be back again one day, but in the meantime, warm waters and the Southern Cross are calling us.

April 30th, 2006

We have recently attended the 5th Annual Selene Rendezvous in Roche Harbor (it was abbreviated for us due to family matters, but fun nontheless) and we'll be back to cruising beginning the end of May, with any luck (sorry.......I have gotten so superstitious -- is it just us??...ok.......me??  Will somebody PLEASE knock on wood?!)

The plan is to make our way through the Broughtons (hopefully in the superb company of the Tildens) while we celebrate assorted birthdays, anniversaries, successful dockings, anchorings, whale sightings, salmon catchings, crab pulling, etc. and perhaps meet up with the Dows (we're planning on the bday celebration Jerry & Linda!) and Andersons (sorry we didn't have more time at the Rendezvous -- we'll look forward to it in the Broughtons) and maybe even the Dobbes?  We also are excited that Josh (our oldest son) will be joining us at some point along the way (With any luck, not in concert with the Andersons as the last time cost us flying lessons [just kidding Mike & Bev, you know we love you and you *know* Josh Loves Ya!]).....After all that revelry, we're headed through Queen Charlotte Sound and up into Alaska for the summer.   Currently, we have David (our youngest son--woo-hoo!--he's gonna come!!), Craig & Jeanette, Darrell & Sandy, my parents Becky & Mitch, and maybe Brad, from Sterling, and his family joining us at various points along the way.

Kleins & McCloskeys -- keep in touch -- maybe we can meet in passing!  Should be a wild, wonderful and exciting summer!  We can't wait!!!

We hope to meet up with the folks attending the Selene Rally at Pierre's Cove on August 10 -13th and then hi-tail it down to Friday Harbor to leave Mystic Moon in time to be back in Pleasanton for D's registration for senior year.

Whew!!!!  Life is good......  :))
